Open Thread for August 8, 2017

Due to a scheduling mixup and my busy day with real work today we don’t have a Roundup ready – one of the other mods will put something up later. We will also have a dedicated preview and open thread for today’s elections in Detroit, Kenya, and legislative specials coming at noon.

EDIT: please move discussion to the new Roundup.

There’s three school millages in small parts of my county today, but it’s a quiet election day overall in these parts. Our county (as did most counties) bought new election equipment recently that will get its first action in this year’s November elections.

Detroit has a top two system for mayor.

MI-08 - Michigan is a red state again. We need a 50 state strategy and an 83 county strategy.

Maine gov: Apparently PPP has a poll of the Maine GOP primary which shows Collins losing.

I really wish folks would just put PPP polling on permanent ignore, but for each their own.

    Conservative first, Republican second!

I put all polls 3 months away from an election on ignore, let alone 15 months.

It can set a narrative. The numbers may be off, but they can use it to set a narrative.
